Calor Gas choose DWS

Calor Gas select DWS as their upgrade partner to assist in upgrading their modified E1 Xe release to the 8.12 release. This is a significant and complex upgrade project and is of great strategic importance to the Calor Gas organisation. DWS looks forward to working closely with Calor Gas on this exciting new project.

DWS traverses the continents

In order to build on our UK success and for the first time, DWS took out stand space at Quest conferences held in both Sydney and Denver in March and April 2008 respectively. As a result, we now have Dimension customers in Australia, New Zealand, United States and Canada. Our DWSDimension product/service has been very well received by customers either thinking of or planning E1 upgrades. These customers have derived huge value from using DWSDimension - please contact us to find out how!

DWSDimension - powerful new enhancement

We are now able to identify precisely all UBE versions containing version-overrides. Version-level overrides can be made to data selections (including section, row, column & cell-level selections), data sequencing, layout, Event Rule code and DB Output, and Dimension identifies and extracts them all. This is a nice little feature for those JDE customers that have added overrides to versions, as these are often misplaced over time and when used in conjunction with the "Last Run" details - that is, we look at exactly when all your versions were last called on your system, it can be very beneficial in achieving a definitive & efficient list of the mods you have, and figuring out which UBEs can be retired.

As an example, we recently extracted over 900 UBEs and overridden versions from a large JDE client, and it turned out that 40% of the versions haven't run in 18 months or more! It meant a huge time saving in terms of the object list that was actually deemed "to upgrade". The redundant objects could be discarded.

We are also able to estimate the effort involved in taking these version level overrides to the target release of choice. This enhancement is hugely beneficial to the client, as the standard JDE Visual Compare tool does not allow you to make efficient comparisons between versions and UBE templates. This obviously makes it very difficult to identify and estimate version level overrides. In addition, Dimension identifies not just Event Rule differences, but also changes to layout, data selections, sequencing and DB Output. Dimension even gives us the capability to compare version-to-version within & between releases. This enhancement will save you both time and money.

JDE Upgrade Day, July 10th at TVP, Reading

This was a very successful and well-attended day for both EnterpriseOne and World clients. John Schiff presented his keynote speech on the future roadmap for both World and EnterpriseOne. Customers heard about best practices, tips and techniques and had the opportunity to network with other users, partners and Oracle personnel.
DWS had a small stand and speaking slot on DWSDimension at the event.

Support for Web Services Gateway being withdrawn

As predicted, since Business Services are the future strategy, Oracle will be withdrawing WSG from tools releases from 1-Sep-08 and will no longer be available to new customers. They will continue to support existing customers with Premier Support until 1-Oct-10, and Sustaining Support thereafter.

9.0 is coming, but when?

Lyle Ekdahl (VP of Product Strategy for E1) hinted strongly at a recent event held at TVP that Oracle would announce a GA date for 9.0 at the annual OpenWorld conference being held in San Francisco this coming September. Oracle have committed to releasing 9.0 in FY09. Oracle's financial year runs until the end of May. We will know a lot more by September this year. Do you fancy a flutter at Ascot?

This year is the first time in a number of years that the JD Edwards user community will have its own dedicated conference again. DWS has a partner representative role on the JDE Committee this year. The JD Edwards committee desperately wants to prevent the demise of what was once a thriving user community here in the UK. The committee along with the UKOUG and Oracle are making a huge effort to make this year's conference the biggest and best JDE specific conference for some years.
The conference is being held at the newly refurbished and impressive Ascot racecourse in Berkshire on November 4/5, 2008.
The agenda for the event is expected to be published by mid July, so please book your place to ensure that we make this year's conference a great success once more.
